I had the opportunity to visit Ghana, West Africa in May 2011 through North Carolina State University. The trip took me through craft villages around the country where I observed pottery, bead making from recycled bottles, stamp batik, the lost wax process, house painting and so much more. Our objective was to create a sketchbook and journal to capture imagery as we travelled the country. These images would later be used to develop new batik designs for an organization called Global Mama’s.
I chose to include weavings as well as text and drawing to capture my experience. Here’s a sampling of the journal work.
